Brea Olinda Unified School District continues to demonstrate strong academic performance and student achievement. The 2026 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and California School Dashboard results show that BOUSD students earned the state’s high performance levels in key indicators and moved the District to the top five districts in Orange County based on the percentage of students Proficient and Advanced, reflecting the dedication and hard work of students, educators, staff, and families across BOUSD.

“BOUSD’s 2026 CAASPP and Dashboard results reflect more than just test scores– they reflect the collective work of teachers, staff, families, and students to help every learner reach their potential,” said Superintendent Brinda Leon. “This is the ‘Brea Difference.’ We set high expectations for every learner, while also providing the targeted support and resources students need to reach those expectations. These results are a reflection of the dedication of our educators and the incredible effort of our students.”

The annual California School Dashboard provides a comprehensive picture of how California’s public schools and districts are performing, measuring academic achievement, student engagement, and school climate. This year’s results highlight BOUSD’s continued academic strength, high levels of college and career readiness, and reducing chronic absenteeism.

Strong Academic Performance Across the District

The percentage of students achieving Proficient or Advanced on the CAASPP in Mathematics, English Language Arts, and Science places BOUSD in the top five districts in Orange County.

  • English Language Arts: 67.66% of students scoring Proficient or Advanced

  • Mathematics: 61.43% of students scoring Proficient or Advanced

  • Science: 53.24% of students scoring Proficient or Advanced

Brea Olinda Unified earned a blue performance level, the state's highest designation, in Graduation Rate and Suspension Rate. The District also earned green performance levels in Mathematics, English Language Arts, Science, College and Career Readiness, and Chronic Absenteeism.

Also among the District’s notable results:

  • English Language Arts: Students performed 40.3 points above proficiency in ELA, surpassing the state average by 47.8 points.

  • Mathematics: Students performed 21.2 points above proficiency in Mathematics, exceeding the state average by 60.1 points.

  • Science: Students scored 62.4 points in Science, outperforming the state by 8.2 points.

  • Chronic Absenteeism: Declined 2% to 7.5%, 8.6 percentage points below the state rate of 16.1%.

These results demonstrate continued academic strength while providing valuable information to guide instructional priorities and support students across the District.

Graduation and College Readiness Remain District Strengths

Brea Olinda Unified students also continue to achieve at high levels as they prepare for life beyond high school. The District’s graduation rate rose to 95.8%, up two percentage points from the previous year and well above the statewide rate of 88.1%.

College and career readiness also remained strong, with 63.6% of BOUSD students meeting the state’s “prepared” designation, compared with 55.2% statewide.

These outcomes reflect the District’s commitment to providing students with rigorous academic opportunities, meaningful learning experiences, and pathways that prepare them for college, careers, and future success.

Using Data to Support Continuous Improvement

While the 2026 Dashboard reflects strong performance across several key indicators, the results also identify opportunities for continued growth. For example, BOUSD’s percentage of English Learners making progress declined by 2.1 percentage points to 55.6%, compared with the statewide rate of 47.4%. Although BOUSD’s rate remained higher than the state average, the District received an orange performance designation, underscoring the importance of continued efforts to improve support for our English learners.

Brea Olinda Unified will continue using Dashboard data, along with local assessments and other measures, to evaluate student needs, strengthen instructional practices, and identify opportunities to support student achievement.
