Olinda Elementary Named 2025 California Distinguished School

Olinda Elementary School has been recognized as a 2025 California Distinguished School by the California Department of Education, highlighting its commitment to academic excellence and exceptional student performance.

The California Distinguished Schools award is considered the state’s top honor for public schools, recognizing campuses that demonstrate exceptional academic performance and efforts to close achievement gaps. Olinda is among 336 schools in California and 44 schools in Orange County to earn the prestigious recognition.

This recognition adds to Olinda Elementary's history of excellence, including a previous designation as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2007 and California Distinguished School recognitions in 2023 and 2006. The school is known for its robust programs, encompassing STEM, robotics, and arts education featuring Art Masters, choir, and band. Additionally, many Olinda students participate in the National History Day competition each year, earning both county and state recognitions.

The Brea Olinda Unified School District (BOUSD) boasts six schools that have earned the California Distinguished School title, reflecting the district's dedication to providing quality education.

“We are so proud of Olinda Elementary for being recognized as a California Distinguished School. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our teachers, students and families and the incredible work happening in our classrooms every day,” said Superintendent Brinda Leon.

State Superintendent Tony Thurmond commended the awardees, stating, "It is my pleasure to honor and recognize these 336 elementary schools for their efforts to provide exemplary public education to all students.”

The 2025 California Distinguished Schools will be celebrated at an awards ceremony on May 30 at the Disneyland Hotel.
